What subjects do you tutor?

I tutor in reading, writing, math skills and handwriting. For reading: decoding, fluency and comprehension. For writing: spelling, grammar and written expression.  For math: computation problem solving.  For handwriting: consistent and precise letter formation. Whatever area(s) your child needs help in, I got you! I also provide homework help for any subject. 

Where do you tutor?

I tutor in a designated classroom space in my home which is located 2 blocks from Douglas MacArthur Elementary in Alexandria. Our home is smoke-free and dog friendly. I also offer virtual tutoring sessions upon request. 

When do you tutor?

 I will work with you to figure out a schedule that works best for your family.  Typically sessions are held after school hours with some sessions happening on the weekends.  If you have special circumstances and need tutoring during school hours, let’s chat!

Who do you tutor?

I tutor children in grades K-6. I tutor students with and without IEPs as well as students enrolled in an accelerated or enriched curriculum program.

What is your experience working with IEPs? Would you be able to work on specific goals?

I’ve written and implemented hundreds of IEPs in my time as a teacher! I can definitely tailor tutoring sessions to meet the individual needs of your child.

How long is a tutoring session?

Sessions will be scheduled for 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the needs of your child.

What are your rates?

Rates are $100/hr. ($75 for 45 minute sessions and $50 for 30 minute sessions) Rates are subject to change. Payment can be made by cash, check (payable to Mrs. Herring’s Schoolhouse LLC) or Venmo (@mrsherring). If you’re using a VDOE Learning Acceleration Grant, invoices will be sent using quickbooks and paid through class wallet.

What if I don’t know exactly what my child needs help with?

I can use a variety of quick-assessment tools to determine the needs of your student. If your student needs help in multiple subjects, we can come up with a plan for that too!
